It is understandable if you get a little confused as to what Pilates means given the wide variety of programs and exercises that use the term. The problem is even compounded by the lack of official guidelines as to what is and what is not genuine. However, there are a number of Pilates equipment that you can benefit from.
Some of these pieces of equipment were known by other names during earlier times. However, they are all important in taking proper Pilates exercises.
Pilates mat
There are specific things that make a Pilates mat different from other mats. They are relatively thicker and more durable while giving a lot of comfort. The heavy padding ensures that you don’t feel the floor as you exercise, and your mat will serve you for many years. On average, Pilates mats are 162cm by 194cm. Ensure that yours is wider than your own body.
Pilates ball
Although exercise balls have been around for many years, there are notable differences in Pilates balls. You can lie on the balls to have a strong cushion that rolls you at the same time. They usually take years without wearing out or leaking since they are made of durable fabric. The balls also accommodate a variety of accessories during your exercises given their high stability.
Pilates ring
The Pilates rings have some qualities of resistance bands and have additional special characteristics. They are usually circular rings of between 10 and 14 inches in diameter whose opposite sides have handles in the form of cushions. They are useful in developing strength and tone in the arms and hands when stretched or compressed.
Although Pilates exercises can be done without investing in anything, these pieces of Pilates equipment will give you better workout with increased safety and convenience. You should therefore not take them for granted.
